A Word from a Admin...

Hey Everybody,

Here is my two cents...

There is no place in this “Family Blog “ for cursing, airing of personal issues, and disparaging talk of other family members.

If that’s what some people want in their “Family Blog”….then I’m disappointed and understand why some stay away from it.

These kinds of posts, comments, or labels take away from what this blog is all about, keeping in touch and sharing photo’s.

Censorship is not the issue, common sense is.

What do you think?

Please comment.

John

You are correct John common sense and good judgment should be enough to keep the blog true to its charter. But when the line is crossed in post or comment I have faith the the other clan members will make it pretty clear when the line is breached. SWMs use of curses was inappropriate and in a reasonable amount of time he would have been pressured to edit the labels himself. We can certainly start a list of whats appropriate and whats not fr our "family" blog but this would be guidelines not law..because telling clan members how and what to post would certainly kill the blog a lot faster then some blue language or another McCauley family squabble.

Gary,

I think we are past the wait and see here.

A number family members don’t post or visit the blog anymore because certain content was left on it.

I believe we, as admin’s must recognize a comment, post or label that is outside the bounds of this Family Blog, and act on it.

Gary,

I do not think guidelines are necessary.

We are all adults.

First of all, GPE, it was one curse word. Secondly, I said what I said and placed it on the labels to be facetious. In no way did I mean to be malicious. Thirdly, I like to think that the amount of time I have spent with Muggs over the years going to ballgames and concerts means something, I think at that very least Muggs could've emailed or phoned me about what he was about to do. Saying I crossed a line and not telling what line I crossed was disingenious.
My recent departure from the blog and return to the blog had nothing to do with any hostility towards any family members. My creative juices needed to be recharged. When family members started to speculate about my affairs on the blog, I decided this would be a good time for a break. I actually thought most the comments were funny, especially Muggs. Muggs your a good admin but a horrible detective. Actually, I thought you, Red, or Brophy would correctly ID the interloper since you three were part of the crew that trashed his father in law's time share. You also drank beer with him on new years eve with Steve, Gary, and I. The interloper was at GPE's wedding and we all drank with him. By the way, he a carpet installer. I did not appreciate family members saying that my interloper post was a neighbor of mine. Do not insult my ex neighbors they're better looking than the interloper. I put the interloper post on the blog for variety (If anybody bothered to read the comments, GPE's wife correctly ID the interloper). The reason I do not put my children on the blog week after week because I find it boring and if I think its boring I think other family members will probably find it boring. I try to mix my post with activities, be it sporting events, history or other types of recreational
activities. I also enjoy the old photos that are posted from time to time. In my opinion what makes our blog interesting and fun is the creativity of the clan.
Finally, this is directed towards Muggs, to say that clan members are not posting or visiting the blog because of the content is ridiculous. I have been following this blog since the summer of 07 and the same people who were posting then are posting now. Lets deal with reality, even though this blog is open to all family members the same family members that were blogging and commenting last year are still blogging and commenting. Alright, I'll give you one notable exception. I see it this way about 60% of the family are outgoing and like to break each other chops. The other 40% are ultra sensitive. The irony is that we the outgoing members are being asked by the ultra sensitive people to control ourselves. Which may or may not be a bad idea except that the ultra sensitive members don't blog and probably wont blog. So in effect we the outgoing members have to control ourselves in case the ultra sensitive people are reading the blog. I feel like Oliver Stone. Before I speak too much, I'll leave you with this. Nobody in this family has fought more times than David and I and we are still close. David and I once fought with weights in the small confines of the trailer. David and I are still close to this day. When I left Jersey I gave David my little Toyota truck. If people are telling you they are not visiting or posting on the blog because of content then they are being disingenuous with you. Lets face it they're not posting or commenting because they don't want to.

Scott,

I understand your humor…but not everybody is going to able to figure out when you are kidding around or being serious.

I am sorry you think I acted rashly when removing your labels…..but I would do again.

All I am saying is to use common sense when posting & commenting.

First of all let me begin with this. I want to thank everyone for keeping our blog alive with interesting posts, comments & insight into what makes us all tick. we are a very diverse group of people who are not always going to agree but that is what makes a family a family. So thank you to our regular bloggers who post & to those who are still testing the waters by lurking. Maybe one day you'll let your presence be known. This is what makes our blogging fun. This post of John's & the comments on it, are a prime example of the open forum for expression on the blog & i hope it will continue to be.
My feelings are this i do agree with john when blogging. use common sense & remember this a "family" blog. I do feel that no one ever intentionally sets out to hurt anyone but some times when you guys get going it is hard to tell when you are kidding & when you are not. For the most part i am sitting at my computer & laughing.
I do feel the poll should be taken down. john should not have to be punished for wanting to keep the integrity of our blog in check. he should be thanked for caring as he does.
finally, keep on blogging but be mindful of the language you choose.

Just for the record, we are always kidding and no harm is ever meant, its just spirted bantering and we do not need a viceroy to regulate it, I say, this family has been through plenty of adversity and we can handle a "loser" comment...We do not need others protecting our feelings, hands off the blog....yanks

ps ,Muggs, like Red before him, must pay for his indescretion, that is if Equal Justice exist and law is not just for Red

Wow!

So much for common sense.

I don't mean to be conspiratorial, but did the "lurkers" turn against Muggs. I will assume the regulars voted, (Joyce, GPE, RED, Brophy, Helen, Muggs, and SWM). That equates to seven votes. Eleven people took part in the voting. Seven voted for some form of a ban and four voted for no ban. Joyce, I will assume voted for no ban. I voted for no ban. I wanted to vote for a three day ban but I couldn't do it. In fairness to Red, I never voted to ban him either when we were debating to ban him. In Red case I abstained from voting. I will also assume Muggs voted no ban or he abstained from voting. This means seven people voted to ban Muggs in some form. Even if we assume the other four regulars voted to ban Muggs in some form, there are three other votes that were cast to ban Muggs. Who are these three other votes?

joyce said...

SWM, if you notice when ever there is a poll & votes are cast thee are quite a few votes . The last poll there were over 20 votes. The lurkers are out there, watching reading voting & showing they have opinions.
you are correct i voted no ban for john. & i haven't voted against red or gary.

what's with the word verification?? i don't like it. who put it there?

Wow!

Miss a weekend, miss alot on the blogg...

Alot can happen when you blink...

I see the UNIRAMBLER is at it again... SWM, did you ever think that maybe some of us honest regulars, or even a cleaver lurker, have figured out that you can vote more than once in the poll???

As for the Muggs suspension the facts are clear, leaving the Batman calling card on someone elses post is a clear violation of the 1st Muggmendment.

As for LABELGATE I say this: Admins are like teachers or professors we have tenure and judicial autonomy. I may disagree with the actions of Muggs in LABELGATE but its his call. Kinda like when an umpire calls a HR a foul ball, regardless of what you think you saw the call stands.

In regards to the Bantering from some active clan bloggers may I remind us all to keep in mind this truth:

The blog is for us all, lurkers and regulars.

Some distant relatives checking in from time to time have every right to think many of us are nuts. Its just like when some jerk in line at the bank is jabbering loud on a cell phone, its rude and its makes you dread going to the bank, lets not make other family members dread coming to the blogg...`

65 days to the reunion!!!!!

joyce said...

nicely put mr. redmin, we're all a little nutty this is true(some more than others) it's what makes us unique.
if you can't laugh at yourself every now & then there's something wrong.

i would be upset to learn some one would vote more than once...that 's not right!!

just like this word verification , is not right! it's apain....

Zombie Mugg said...

Wow, the conspiracy deepens! The Clan has figured out a way to vote more than once just to punish or help a fellow Clanner. I guess one person, one vote means nothing. Why even take part in the voting if Clan members are going to manipulate the results! I call for an immediate investigation by GPE!

RE: the word verification.. I turned it back on to help fight spam in our comments. It is not supposed to be visible to our blog members..its only suppose to show for androgynous posters..if its not working correctly or hinderers our ability to easily comment I will pull it down..

Good Decalogue on labelgate.. hopefully labels won't be an issue again..hopefully..
