A group of fans leaving a rock concert in the Brendan T. Byrne Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, N.J., overturned and burned two cars in a parking lot and pelted firefighters with bottles and cans before being dispersed early yesterday, the state police said. Thirty-three people were arrested before order was restored. The incident began Saturday shortly after 11 P.M., when a few thousand youths gathered in a lot after a concert by the British heavy-metal group Iron Maiden, according to Sgt. Richard Ryan of the state police. He said the number of people who overturned and burned the cars was not known.
Firefighters on two trucks responded but were hampered by flying glass. No serious injuries were reported, Sergeant Ryan said. He said that officers knew of no motive for the incident, but that many people were intoxicated. #19,000 at Concert Police detectives and officers, joined by private guards and the firefighters, for a total of 75 people, dispersed the crowd by 1 A.M.
Thirty-three people from 15 to 22 years old were arrested before, during or after the concert. Most were charged with disorderly conduct. A boy, 17, was charged with aggravated assault with a vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol after backing his car into a state police detective, who suffered minor leg injuries.
Only three of those arrested in the melee after the concert were juveniles, according to Sgt. Edward Etzel, a spokesman at state police headquarters in Trenton.
''Don't call them kids,'' he said. ''For the most part these were adults age 18 or over.''
All those arrested were from North Jersey, New York City or Rockland County, N.Y. and were released in their parents' custody, Sergeant Ryan said.
The idea of a family blog was born at our gathering for Mark on Friday March 23, 2007. This is a great way to communicate over many miles and time zones.
We look forward to everyones contributions - thoughts, comments, debate, pictures or whatever you like!

Iron Maiden riot? Dave and I wished we worked that concert. The heads we could've smashed with our fellow yellow jacketeers.
